Update: March 21st 2020
Following the cancellations of the summer exams this year (AS, AL & GCSE). The Exam boards and OFQUAL will work with teachers and schools to award predicted grades to those students whose exams are cancelled and priority will be given to award grades fairly based on the work they have put in.
Universities have confirmed they will be flexible and will do all they can to support the progression of students to higher education.
The grades are aimed to be provided before the end of July, the grades will be indistinguishable to those of previous years and will not have a systematic disadvantage due to the current situation.
Update: March 19th 2020
The 2020 May-June exams for A-Levels and the GCSEs will be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This announcement came in the afternoon of March 18th 2020 during UK Prime minister Boris Johnson's daily press update.
As expected by some, and unexpected by some, the news raises a lot of questions as to the progress of the students towards their qualifications. However, UK Prime Minister also mentioned:
"The Government will make sure that students' progress will not be impeded and the Government will ensure that students receive the qualifications fairly, as they deserve."
Hence, for the areas which are yet uncertain, we can only wait till further information regarding the decisions from the UK Department of Education.
